A long time ago, we tried to start a business of selling bonsai trees to nurseries.  That particular venture failed, but it did give us two things.  First was an interest in and talent for creating and training bonsai trees.  The second thing we gained was a registered name - kind of like a trademark.  Here's the story of how that came about.

At the time, we had four pets - two dogs and two cats.  Their names were Alex, Toad, Lucy, and Flo.  When we took the first letters of their names and arranged them around a bit, we came out with F-L-A-T.  We couldn't make a word out of M and J, the first letter of my wife's name and the first letter of my name, so we decided to take the first two letters.  That gave us MA and JI.  When we put it together we sort of had the word MAJI.  Actually, the real word is magi, meaning "wise men", but we weren't really trying to make any pretense of being wise.  Since we were a rather weird little company of people and animals, we decided to stick the letter C on the end.  That's how we ended up with Flat Majic.

Flat Majic is really just an "umbrella" name, under which we conduct a variety of activities.  Flat Majic Books and Gifts is a 12 step shop and gift store we've owned and operated since January 1, 2002.  At the store we sell books and gifts pertaining to alcoholism and other addictions, and recovery from them.  We also sell books and gifts pertaining to spirituality.  We're heavily influenced by eastern philosophy and thought. All of the books and tapes we offer through this website are listed at your left.

We're not really into magic at all.  We don't teach magic.  We don't sell magic.  We don't sell books on how to do magic tricks.  We don't sell magic kits.  As a matter of fact, the name is the only thing having to do with magic and that's only in how it sounds.  Having said that, however, we do carry some feng shui supplies, a few pendulums, sets of rune stones and amulets, and other charms and pendants.  But the deal is that we really want to keep the products we carry relevant to spiritual practice.
