Why does it always happen to me? |

An
odd thing happened when I created this page.
I
spent about a half hour writing about something that happened to me on the day I first thought of this topic,
but when I opened the file the next day to finish editing and polishing the page, it
wasn't there. Actually, the page was there, but everything I'd written was
gone. I don't know why that happened, or how it happened. I was
trying to explain why we're doing the things we're doing - with this website,
with the 12 Step Shop in Burien, with our lives. I don't know why that happened. Of course I thought that what I'd written was inspired, but I think I'm
beginning to understand.

It's
just this: we can't cast our purpose in stone, or paper and ink, or electronic bits on a
computer. We may or may not have some grand and glorious purpose or contract to fulfill in this lifetime. Who can say? That purpose may change over the course of our lives. If our purpose is to defeat the foe, what becomes of us when we have defeated our foe?
Do we no longer have a purpose? For just that reason, I believe we don't come here with a purpose or a goal or objective that is materially attainable. We
come here to get a life. That's it. And when we've gotten our life our job is to live it. That's all. During our stay here, we'll learn things like the Golden Rule. If we're really
smart (which I am definitely not), we pick up on the fact that it's actually easier to get along with others, and put them first in our thoughts, than it is to continually be grasping for something we will never get enough of. |

So go back to the home page and start over. Click on something that interests you and enjoy it. Get into it. Immerse yourself in it. Maybe
somewhere along the way we'll both get it - that life is a grand adventure and sacred paradox.
To really live we must die to our self. To really receive anything of value, we must give away our most prized possession. To really win we must surrender
all. To find God, we must look inside. |
