Flat Majic Books and Gifts is a 12 Step Shop and Spiritual Store.  We sell books and gifts having to do with recovery from alcoholism and other addictions.  We also carry books and gifts to support the journey along the spiritual path.  As we've progressed along our own path, we've discovered that the steps we took apply to everything we do.  

"We had to ask ourselves why we shouldn't apply to our human problems this same readiness to change our point of view.  We were having trouble with personal relationships, we couldn't control our emotional natures, we were a prey to misery and depression, we couldn't make a living, we had a feeling of uselessness, we were full of fear, we were unhappy, we couldn't seem to be of real help to other people -- was not a basic solution of these bedevilments more important than whether we should see newsreels of lunar flight? We don't sell magic.  We don't sell books on how to do magic tricks.  We don't sell magic kits.  As a matter of fact, the name has only one thing to do with magic and that's how it sounds.  ( It does have a "metaphysical" ring to it, though.  click "here" to find out how we got it)

It's up to each individual to develop and maintain their own spiritual program.  We support that idea, leaving doctrine and dogma to the churches.  We carry things for people interested in New Age, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, The Self-Realization Fellowship, and other spiritual traditions.  The key idea there is that what we carry is for people, NOT institutions.

That, in a nutshell, is what we are all about.  What are you about?  If you're pretty sure that you know what you're about, we probably have something for you.  If you don't yet know what you're about, we definitely DO have something for you.

It might be a book, some speaker-tapes, greeting cards, medallions, or other gifts for you to give away or just give to yourself.  You really do deserve a gift.

The best selection of metaphysical supplies is online at www.flatmajic.net.  The best selection of 12 Step and Recovery oriented stuff is at the store.  Both are highly charged with the Spirit of Love, the Spirit of Recovery, and the Spirit Universal.

We carry a large selection of Hazelden literature.  Probably more than Borders or Barnes and Noble.  Hazelden is probably the biggest publisher of addiction and co-dependancy recovery literature.  We also have a great selection of other popular authors such as Karen Casey, Bill Pittman, H.H. the Dalai Lama, Alan Watts, Neale Donald Walsch, and others.  We even have a few obscure esoteric texts in modern translations, too.  You really need to come in to see it all.  And if we don't have it in stock, we'll be happy to order any title anytime with a minimum deposit (50%, half of which is non-refundable).

This is kind of funny

I've had some interesting conversations on the phone since we opened our retail store in Burien, WA.  Mostly with folks looking for the previous owner and folks who misunderstand me when I say the name.  So I've tried to speak more clearly, and a bit slower, too.  It's seemed to help:

"Flat Majic Books and Gifts...  may I help you?"  "Did you say BLACK Magic?  I don't want to have anything to do with BLACK Magic!" "No, I said FLAT Majic.  Flat... as in NOT Bumpy.  Majic as in the first two letters of Mary's name followed by the first two letters of my name, finished with a C."  "Well where the heck did you come up with THAT name?  It sure doesn't sound like a bookstore of any kind I know about."  "Well, we had some pets.  Their names were Flo, Lucy, Alecks, and Toadwart.  We took the first letters of their names and the first two letters of our names.  But then we had to finish it with something, so we added a C on there."  "Oh.  Okay.  As long as it doesn't have anything to do with BLACK Magic.  I don't want anything to do with Black Magic.  You know what I mean?"
